Apartment 11 — Von Schöbeln

Franz Edler von Schöbeln,
Mayor of Brașov (1854-1859)

After the death of Honterus, his printing house passed into the hands of the von Schöbeln family, one of the most prominent in the city.

Housed in the family home, newly built in 1550, the Von Schöbeln printer has played a huge cultural role for hundreds of years.

Throughout the centuries, the von Schöbeln family contributed greatly to the development of Brasov, not only culturally but also administratively, even reaching the city’s leadership through Josef Traugott Edler von Schöbeln and Franz von Schöbeln, elected mayors between 1780 and 1783, and 1854 and 1859 respectively.

In the meantime, the von Schöbeln family’s house from 1550 underwent countless changes in keeping with the times.
