Apartment 10 — Johann Gött

Johann Gött (1810-1888)

In 1834, the Schöbeln family printing house was bought by one of its former employees, a young German printer named Johann Gött, who had settled in Brasov only two years earlier.

His name is linked to the appearance of the emblematic Brașov publication “Gazeta de Transilvania” (The Gazette of Transylvania) in 1838 and its literary supplement, “Foaia pentru minte, inimă și literatură” (A paper for mind, heart and literature).

Ennobled by Emperor Franz Josef in 1867, Johann Gött became mayor of Brasov, a position he held until the end of 1879, when he retired at the age of 69.

As a sign of gratitude, the street linking Apollonia Hirscher and Nicolae Bălcescu streets was named after the famous printer, in 1990.

Apartment 10 (JOHANN GÖTT) can accommodate a maximum of 2 people.
